Academy Awards (“TheOscars”) recognize the achievements in the motion-picture industry from films from the previous year. Films can be nominated for one or multiple categories ranging from Best Picture to Best Animated Feature. While someOscar-worthy films weren’t nominated at all, other films were nominated for their under achievements in the last year.

Since 1981, the Golden Raspberry, commonly known as the Razzies, awards the “worst” in each category, such as the Worst Picture, The Worst Screenplay, and Worst Actor. In 2022, the Razzies are celebrating their 42nd anniversary, and there were a few nominees for Worst Actor that may surprise viewers.

10. Judy Kaye in ‘Diana: The Musical’

Princess Diana or Lady Diana Frances Spencer married Prince Charles in 1981. Documentaries and biopics described the life of Princess Diana, a schoolteacher turned princess or “People’s Princess.” In 2021, DirectorChristopher Ashleybrought Diana’s life story to the screen in a musical format titledDiana: the Musical.

Judy Kayewas the respectable and modest Queen Elizabeth. She also played the role of colorful Barbara Cartland, Princess Diana’s step-grandmother. Kaye was nominated for a Razzie for the Worst Supporting Actress for both roles.

9. Sophie Cookson in ‘Infinite’

The Paramount+ original movieInfinitestarredMark Wahlbergas Evan McCauley, a man diagnosed with schizophrenia at a young age. The hallucinations that he saw were actually memories of his past lives, but can’t seem to remember. When Nora Brightman (Sophie Cookson) rescued Evan from Bathurst’s (Chiwetel Ejiofor) interrogation, Evan learned that he was not the only one with this gift.

Nora introduces Evan to other people with this ability named the Infinites. Although Infinites are reborn with a new identity, they still have the same abilities from their previous life. Nora became a trusted ally to Evan, but Cookson was nominated for Worst Supporting Actress for this role.

8. Megan Fox in ‘Midnight in the Switchgrass’

In the criminal thrillerMidnight in the Switchgrass,Rebecca (Megan Fox) and Karl (Bruce Willis) were FBI agents working on finding the person responsible for the sex trafficking ring. They realized their case was connected to the series of young women murdered by the “Truck Stop Killer,” that a Florida State officer was investigating. Rebecca went uncover to catch the killer.

Rebecca’s uncover plan went awry when she fell directly into the serial killer’s trap. She was brave by allowing herself to be in this situation in the first place and fleeing from the killer. Fox was nominated for Worst Actress for her role.

7. LeBron James in ‘Space Jam: A New Legacy’

In 1996,Michael Jordanstarred as himself in the movie,Space Jam.It combined the classicLooney Tunescartoons with live-action, similar to the movieLooney Tunes: Back In Action(2003). InLooney Tunes: Back In Action(2003), theplot revolved around the characters searching for a Blue Monkey Diamond, whereas inSpace Jam(1996) the focus was on winning a basketball game.

Space Jam: A New Legacy(2021) was supposed to appeal to a new generation that didn’t grow up watching the original. The storyline still involved basketball, but this time,LeBron Jameswas focused on winning the game to save his son. Both movies included widely recognized basketball players, except only James was nominated for a Razzie award for Worst Actor.

6. Ben Platt in ‘Dear Evan Hansen’

Among thelive-action musicals movies that premiered in 2021such asWest Side Story,andAnnettewasDear Evan Hansen. InDear Evan Hansen,Evan Hansen (Ben Platt)wrote a letter to himself to help him cope with his anxiety. After meeting Connor (Colton Ryan), Connor takes Evan’s typed letter. Connor’s parents returned the letter to Evan, assuming that this was Connor’s last words before taking his own life.

Evan felt that he didn’t have any friends, and the one person he considered a friend bullied him. After Connor’s death, he began comforting those around him who also felt alone. Platt was nominated for a Razzie for Worst Actor for this role.

5. Ruby Rose in ‘Vanquish’

InVanquish, Victoria (Ruby Rose) took care of Damon (Morgan Freeman) a paralyzed former police officer. Victoria told Damon that her daughter was sick. Damon offered to help her find treatment, but it would require Victoria to help him kill groups of gangsters. Even though she initially refused, she gave in after Lily was taken.

Victoria previously had experience as a drug courier, but she would never want to return to that life again. She was clever and had quick reflexes where she barely escaped her pursuers. Rose was nominated for a Razzie for Worst Actress.

4. Nick Cannon in ‘The Misfits’

InThe Misfits(2021),Pierce Brosnanstarred as Richard Pace, an expert thief and a master of slipping away from the hands of security. Ringo (Nick Cannon), Violet (Jaime Chung), The Prince (Rami Jaber), Wick (Mike Angelo), and Hope (Hermoine Corfield) made up the group known as “The Misfits,” thieves that steal from the rich. Their most dangerous mission yet was to steal gold from a highly secure prison owned by Schultz (Tim Roth) and they needed Richard’s assistance.

Any movie that involved groups of people teaming up to pull off dangerous heists will likely have viewers on the edge of their seats, even if they were alsofighting a zombie apocalypse such as inArmy of The Dead(2021). These people are recognized for at least one of their strengths that make them unique to the crew. InThe Misfits(2021), Ringo was the leader of the group, and Cannon was nominated for a Razzie for Worst Supporting Actor.

3. Jared Leto in ‘House of Gucci’

The history of the Italian family behind the brand Gucci was told in the movie,House of Gucci.The movies focused on the relationship between Maurizio Gucci (Adam Driver) and his newly wedded wife, Patrizia Reggiani (Lady Gaga). Patrizia was determined to obtain at least some control over the Gucci business.

House of Gucciwas nominated for three Screen Actors Guild Awardsand nominated for a 2022 Academy Award for Best Hairstyling and Makeup. Despite his ability to completely morph into characters such as The Joker inZack Synder’s Justice League(2021),Jared Letowas nominated for a Razzie for Worst Supporting Actor for his role as Paolo Gucci.

2. Amy Adams in ‘The Woman In The Window’

The Woman In The WindowstarredAmy Adamsas Anna Fox, a woman suffering from agoraphobia or the fear of leaving her home. She met Jane Russell (Julianne Moore) who recently moved in across the street. Anna’s second-floor apartment provided her a good view of the neighbors where she saw Jane murdered by her husband.

No one believed the murder actually happened, because Alistair (Gary Oldman) claimed that his wife, Jane is alive. This time, the Jane that introduced herself wasJennifer Jason Leigh. Anna was devoted to proving that she wasn’t hallucinating the incident.The Woman In The Windowtried to replicate the cinematic techniques fromThe Rear Window(1954). Adams was nominated for Worst Actress for her role.

1. Bruce Willis (in his own category)

For the first time in the history of the Golden Raspberry Award ceremonies, Willis was represented in his own category titled, “Worst Performance by Bruce Willis in a 2021 Movie.” The movies in this category wereMidnight in the Switchgrass,American Siege,Apex,Cosmic Sin,Deadlock,Fortress,Out of Death,andSurvive the Game.

In seven of these films, Willis portrayed some kind of authoritative figure whether it was an FBI agent, former military leader or retired CIA agent, or police officer. However, in the movieDeadlock,Willis was a criminal mastermind known as Ron Whitlock. As the Razzies are set to announce the winners on June 11, 2025, Willis is guaranteed to win for one of his roles.
