Fox’s smash-hit medical drama,Doc,has set its return date for Season 2, and it’s coming back even bigger than the first. Season 1 premiered to instant success on the network, becoming its most-watched series in more than five years with over 16 million viewers tuning in for the season premiere. This led to a swiftSeason 2 renewal, which came ahead of the penultimate episode. Given these reasons, it’s not surprising to see that Fox is doubling down on the series; where Season 1 included 10 episodes, a new report from the network reveals thatthe upcoming sophomore season will include a whopping 22 episodes. A new teaser trailer for the new season has also been released.

What setsDocapart from other medical dramas is that it’s inspired by the remarkable true story ofPierdante Piccioni, an Italian doctor who, after a tragic accident in 2013, lost 12 years of his memory. The story was first brought to the screen in the Italian seriesDoc – Nelle tue mani, and Fox’s adaptation offers an American take on this inspiring tale. The U.S. version centers on Dr. Amy Larsen (Molly Parker), the chief of internal medicine at Minneapolis’s fictional Westside Hospital, who suffers an accident that erases eight years of her memory. Against all odds, she rebuilds her life and returns to practicing medicine — despite no recollection of key moments from her past, including her divorce from her ex-husband, Dr. Michael Hamda (Omar Metwally).
