Editor’s note: The following contains spoilers for ‘A Minecraft Movie’If you stick around until after the credits ofA Minecraft Movie, you might see a familiar face if you are a fan of the games. Although there areplenty of Easter eggs and nods to the video gamewithin the movie, such as all the classic mobs, villages, and even the Nether, the game is so vast that it is impossible to include everything. Most of these absences are things a player likely wouldn’t do in their first few day cycles of the game. However, the post-credits scene not only teased what fans could expect from the sequelbut also brought something into the movie universe that is hugely recognizable to fans and casual players. Yet, the casting of this character is not straightforward and presentsquestions about their futurein the potential franchise. Therefore, it is definitely worth sticking around until after the credits ofA Minecraft Movie.

What Happens in ‘A Minecraft Movie’ Post-Credits Scene?

A Minecraft Movieends with Steve (Jack Black) returning to the real world, settling down to help Garrett (Jason Momoa) create a new video game and using his creativity for something more tangible. He seems to have overcome his isolation and has been able to reintegrate into society. However, having lived in the Overworld for so long, a lot of his possessions were sold, as shown in the auction scene near the beginning of the movie. Therefore, Steve returns to his old house to see if a chest is still in the attic.Gone is his signature top,now replaced with a Hawaiian shirt in the same hue. After he knocks on the door, a woman opens it, with the camera firmly placed behind her, so the audience cannot see her face.

The house’s new owner informs Steve that the chest is still upstairs, which he celebrates. With ginger hair tied to the side and a green shirt, eagle-eyed fans may quickly work out the mysterious woman’s identity.Yet, everything is confirmed when she asks “Hey do you want to come in, I’m Alex by the way”. For those unfamiliar with the games, Alex was the second playable character to be introduced to the game, after Steve.

Who Plays Alex in ‘A Minecraft Movie’? - It’s Complicated!

Added in the 1.8 update of Java Minecraft in 2014,Alex was added toMinecraftdue to a lack of diversity. Before her introduction, Steve was the only playable character and, although his appearance is mundane and inoffensive, Alex offers amore fem-presenting character(although both are seen as genderless). In fact, Alex’s appearance is strikingly similar toJens Bergensten, the co-developer of the game, who confirmed this fact, outlining that he used his own likenessfor Alex so he had something to blame if people didn’t like the skin. As a character, she is often seen with Steve, so it is logical the two would cross paths duringA Minecraft Movie, with this post-credits scene setting up the potential for her to join Steve and enter the Overworld.

The voice of Alex may be recognizable, as it isKate McKinnon, however, the actress’ role is actually uncredited despiterumors of her involvement in the movie during production. Instead, Alex’s double is credited toAlice May Connollyin the credits. This is likely to give the filmmakers more freedom if Alex were to be brought back. At the moment, the post-credits scene is a fun Easter egg for fans of the game, so any plans for a potential story arc will be merely foundational. By not attaching a face to Alex, the movie universe is more open to casting whoever they want. This is hugely likely, withA Minecraft Moviemaking over $300 million globallyin its opening weekend and projections for it to become one of the highest-grossing video game adaptations of all time, a sequel doesn’t just feel possible but probable. So, after this post-credits scene tease, we can expect Steve to bring Alex on board for his next adventure into the Overworld.
