Some movie fans pride themselves on being forever optimists. However, even the most positive can sometimes have their patience stretched and tested, with few able to find much to compliment aboutAdam Sandler’s despised 2011 film,Jack and Jill. Sandler’s reputation as a comic actor is always under scrutiny, and, despite theSNLalum appearing in some of thebiggest and best comediesof all time, it is entries in his filmography likeJack and Jillthatearn him such a negative receptionfrom some corners of film fandom.
However, if you’re a fan of Sandler, or indeedAl PacinoorKatie Holmes, and seek to complete theirentire filmographyas many film lovers do, then you’ll simply have to hunker down and survive the onslaught of fair stupidity that isJack and Jill.As of August, you can do this via Starz, with Sandler’s flick officially joining the platform’s wide range of content. On review aggregatorRotten Tomatoes,Jack and Jillhas a 36% audience score and a terrible 3% rating from critics,with both of these scores perhaps even too high for some.For those brave enough to venture intoSandler’s worst waters, here is a look at the movie’s synopsis:

“Thanksgiving is usually a happy time, but ad executive Jack (Sandler) dreads the holiday because his twin sister, Jill (also Sandler), makes her annual visit. When Jack and his sister get off on the wrong foot, the only way to make it right is to invite her to stay through Hanukkah. But, when actor Al Pacino, whom Jack desperately needs to star in a commercial, takes a shine to Jill,Jack may be forced to extend his sister’s visit even longer.”
‘Jack and Jill’ Didn’t Capture Enough Box Office Attention
Perhaps due to its strange premise, or more likely thanks to the tragic reviews it was receiving,Jack and Jillfailed to capture any sort of box office success, despite coming close to breaking even. On a reported production budget of $79 million,Jack and Jillfinished its theatrical run with aglobal total of $150 million, split between $74 million in domestic revenue and a further $76 million from overseas markets. Somehow, the flop managed to hang on for 16 weeks in theaters, claiming just $80,000 on its final weekend.
