Come on, tell your friends, we’re finally getting thatAdventure Time: Fionna and Cakespin-off series! While the series, starring gender-swapped versions of Finn and Jake fromAdventure Time, wasfirst announced back in 2021, it’s been a while since we’ve heard anything about it. Well now we finally have a release window, and it turns out that lucky viewers at San Diego Comic-Con will even get to see the world premiere of the first episode! While Fionna and Cake may have started as just Rule 63 art ofAdventure Time’s main characters Finn and Jake, they’ve evolved into much more, becoming some ofAdventure Time’s most beloved characters.

Adventure Time: Fionna and Cakepremieres on Thursday, June 10, 2025. The series premiered its first episode at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2023.

Where Can You Watch Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake?

Assuming you can’t get to San Diego Comic-Con, the place to seeAdventure Time: Fionna and Cakewill be on Max, Warner Bros Discovery’s streaming service, when theAdventure Timespin-off debuts there this fall.Fionna and Cakeis currently set to be a limited series consisting of ten half-hour episodes.

Is There a Trailer for Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake?

A sizzle reel for the spin-offwas revealed at San Diego Comic-Con on July 02, 2025. The minute-long spot teases that the highly anticipated series will take theAdventure Timefranchise to new places not just storywise but also with varying animation styles and designs.

Afull trailer was released by Maxon August 25, 2025, further highlighting the series' distinct animation style. The series also revealed that Finn and Jake will be returning for the new series, with Finn looking quite older than when we last saw him.

Who Stars in Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake?

Madeleine Martinvoices Fionna inAdventure Time: Fionna and Cake. Martin was also the voice of Fionna in the Fionna and Cake episodes ofAdventure Time. She previously voiced JoJo in the seriesJoJo’s Circusand played Madeleine inThe Marvelous Ms. Maisel.

Cake will also be played by her voice actor fromAdventure Time-Roz Ryan. Ryan previously voiced Thalia, one of the Muses in Disney’sHerculesandHercules the Animated Series. She was also the voice of Bubbie the Whale inThe Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack, voiced Cyborg’s grandmother inTeen Titans Go!, and played Grandma Gayle King in theZendayastarring seriesK.C. Undercover.

Tom Kennywill also reprise his role from Adventure Timeand voice Simon Petrikov. (Petrikov spent most ofAdventure Timeas the Ice King due to his crown which gave him ice powers but also drove him mad.) Kenny is best known as the iconic voice of SpongeBob SquarePants, but that’sfar from his only notable work. He also voiced Dog in the seriesCatDog, voiced Scoutmaster Lumpus inCamp Lazlo,and voiced Squanchy inRick and Morty.

The rest of the voice cast includesDonald Gloverreprising his role as Marshall Lee, as well asAndrew Rannells(Big Mouth),Kayleigh McKee(Jujutsu Kaisen 0), andSean Rohani(Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers).

What Is Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake About?

From their earliest appearances, first simply as art, and then as characters in the Ice King’s fanfiction, Fionna and Cake have had a devoted following. It’s hard not to love Fionna, the human, and Cake, the cat. In theAdventure Time: Fionna and Cakelimited series they’ll be teaming up with Simon Petrikov, the character who spent much ofAdventure Timeknown as the Ice King, to travel the multiverse and fight against a new villain. We’ve also learned thatFionna and Cakewill feature a somewhat older Fionna and be targeted more toward a young adult audience.

The official synopsis via MAX reads:

Based on characters from the beloved “Adventure Time” franchise, this brand-new 10-episode series set in the land of Ooo follows the alternate universe versions of Finn & Jake on a multiverse-hopping journey towards self-discovery. When Fionna and her sidekick Cake find themselves in the crosshairs of a powerful new foe, they have no choice but to seek the help of former Ice King Simon Petrikov. With appearances from Marshall Lee, Marceline the Vampire Queen, Princess Bubblegum, and Finn the Human, “Adventure Time: Fionna & Cake” transports fans of the classic series to worlds both familiar and alien.

Who Is Making Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake?

The showrunner forAdventure Time: Fionna and CakeisAdam Muto. Muto was also the showrunner for several seasons ofAdventure Timeand also worked ontheAdventure Time: Distant Landsspecials. In addition to working onAdventure Time, Muto also worked on storyboards forSteven UniverseandSummer Camp Island.

The original concept art forFionna and Cakewas drawn byAdventure TimeartistNatasha Allegri, who also went on to draw the Fionna and Cake comic. Allegri is also the creator of the adorable and surprisingly deep seriesBee and PuppyCat.

WhilePendleton Wardwas the original creator ofAdventure Time, he stepped away from the series part way through its initial run and has more recently worked on projects includingMidnight GospelandBee and Puppycat.
