It’s no secret that moreLeague of Legendsanimated shows are being considered after the overwhelming success ofArcane. Netflix’s animated hit fromChristian LinkeandAlex Yeewrapped up its second and final season last year, closing the book on the story of sisters Vi (Hailee Steinfeld) and Jinx (Ella Purnell)on a bittersweet notethat paved the way for a better future for Piltover and Zaun. It also, once again, earned widespread acclaimwith a Certified Fresh 100% Rotten Tomatoes score, setting the standard for what a video game adaptation can be with the right creatives and the budget to make it a reality. Withall of Runeterra still left to explore, the possibilities are endless for the MOBA’s next step on-screen. Yee and writer/executive producerAmanda Overtoncan’t say yet what’s being considered, but they did share a wild idea they’ve spent a surprising amount of time thinking about.

At Collider’sscreening of the Season 2 finale, Yee and Overton took part in a Q&A withPerri Nemiroff, where the pair were asked if they had the power, what kind of spin-off they would manifest with no limits. Linke and Yee had already made it clear in a previous conversation with Collider’sLaura Adamsthat they didn’t want to start dishing on potential champions and stories being explored before the details are squared away. Back in May, they werefocused on finding other creatorspassionate about depicting the world ofLeaguein a new way. When the only limits are their imagination, however, the Yee and Overton opened up about their unusual sitcom pitch involving Vi, Jinx, and Caitlyn (Katie Leung) in an homage to a comedy classic.

“So, what happens is Vi and Caitlyn are moving forward in their lives together, and for reasons that I can’t explain, since Caitlyn is so wealthy, they get a rent-controlled apartment, and Jinx, because it’s a totally alternate universe, lives with them. It’s just really kind of like aThree’s Company…” Yee shared before Overton chimed in with, “Sitcom.” “Awkward.” This fun theoretical idea wouldcarry Vi and Caitlyn’s romance forwardafter they consummated their relationship in Season 2, now following them in the more comedic mundanities of life while dealing with the third wheel that is Jinx and delivering plenty of fitting punchlines. “We have brainstormed several scenes of this spin-off,” Yee continued. “It’s got really compelling jokes, like, ‘Whose hair is in the drain,’ when it’s pink, blue, black.“Jayce (Kevin Alejandro), or “Big brother J,” would also be involved, bringing casseroles for dinner.

‘Arcane’ Creators Are Interested in Intimately Showing How Champions Live

A happier, sillier sitcom reality of Runeterra isn’t out of the realm of possibility. Season 2 directlyshowed a parallel dimensionwhere Vander (JB Blanc) never died and peace was achieved between Piltover and Zaun, all while imparting the main characters with some important lessons to take back toArcane’s main timeline. Even if it is theoretically possible, though, Yee and Overton’sThree’s Companypitch is still a more fun thought experiment than an actual spin-off plan. It does, however, hit at an aspect ofLeague of Legendsthat Yee says he and Linke are genuinely interested in exploring afterthe more complex story of Vi and Jinx.

Citing his and Linke’s knowledge of the game and its lore, he shared their passion forwanting to show how the champions actually live their lives when not constantly fighting. Although there are no plans he could share, he did admit that it would be quite fitting if a future project hit on that aspect with a collection ofLeaguecharacters. It doesn’t have to be a sitcom, but there is real interest in seeing something that makes Runeterra feel lived in and makes the champions feel more human.

“We genuinely did, I think, spend what could be considered real work time on this. Realistically, we know the game, right? There are a lot of characters. There’s a lot of world. For Christian and I, being able to feel like we deliver on a promise of players getting to see their champions eye to eye and actually get the sense of how they fit in the world and what they look like when they’re sharing, like, a tenement house or something, is a passion. It’s a goal. It’s a feeling that we really want to fulfill. And if that happens to be what upcoming content would look like, well, that would be a big coincidence, I suppose.”

Of course, both he and Overton still find the fun in fantasizing about more adventures with Vi, Jinx, and Caitlyn involved. “In my fantasy land, we get 40-year-old Vi and Caitlyn going on a road trip throughout Runeterra, and shenanigans ensue,” Overton added, with her and Yee both wondering who the driver would be.
