Now thatAssassin’s Creed: Valhallais out and players can get back into the Animus to see through the eyes of yet another cool, historical Assassin, it’s time to revisit the entire timeline of theAssassin’s Creedfranchise.
Assassin’s Creed, because of its very nature, has a complicated and messy timeline. Since it’smostlybased on our own timeline, every important moment in human history plays out in the long in-game history that encompasses the 12 main titles in the franchise (along with its many spin-offs games, comics, and novels). Because of that blend of history and fiction, we’re including everything significant to the game’s storylines, as well as a couple of fun facts about how the game’s timeline diverges or supersedes our own. Some details in some of the games may contradict one another, so we’re sticking to the story that is still canon as of the last three games.

Before we get going, a big thanks to all contributors over at theAssassin’s Creedwiki for providing dates for many of these events which aren’t specified in the games proper. With that out of the way, let’s grab our Hidden Blades, and don’t forget about cutting off your ring finger, because we’re heading out to find some ancient artifacts, jump off some cliffs, and stealthily make our way through time.
