Like almost everyone reading this article, I grew up watching Amblin movies. Founded in 1981 bySteven Spielbergand producersKathleen KennedyandFrank Marshall, the company has brought to life so many amazing stories it’s hard not to have been impacted by them. As you look over their full resume, just some of the highlights includeGremlins,The Goonies,Back to the Future,Empire of the Sun,Who Framed Roger Rabbit,E.T.,Jurassic Park,Men in Black,Saving Private Ryan,Munich,War of the Worlds,Jurassic World, and dozens of other films and TV shows.
With the studio now in its thirty-fifth year, our friends at Creature Features in Burbank are putting on a cool art show titled “Amblin 35: An Art Tribute Show” this December. Curated byTaylor WhiteandJack Morrissey, the show will pay tribute to Amblin with a gallery exhibit featuring imagery from, and inspired by, the company’s extraordinary history. The exact dates are the evening of Friday, December 2nd through Thursday, December 15th.
While the show will feature numerous artists, the headliner isDrew Struzan, who painted many of the iconic Amblin posters for films such asHook,An American Tail,The Gooniesand theBack to the Futuretrilogy.
As a huge fan of Struzan’s work, the real highlight of the show is that Struzan will display a selection of original, never-before-seen art from his personal archive! I can’t wait to see what he brings.
