Legendary must be feeling pretty good about their upcoming Pokemon-inspired movieDetective Pikachu, because almost three months before the film hits theaters, the studio has started developing a sequel.THRreports that the studio has hired22 Jump StreetOren Uzielto write the script for the follow-up. The plot details are still under wraps.
Detective PikachustarsRyan Reynoldsas the voice of everyone’s favorite cuddly pokémon Pikachu as he assists Tim (Justice Smith), the son of an ace detective who takes on a case of his own when his father goes missing.GoosebumpsdirectorRob Lettermanis directing from a script he co-wrote withNicole Perlman(Guardians of the Galaxy). The film blends CGI and live-action to bring PIkachu’s adventures to life, and the first trailer turned out to be a big hit.

The films are inspired by the international sensation Pokemon, the animated series and card game that lets players train little monstrous/adorable creatures called Pokemon to compete in tournaments. The AR appPokemon Gocapitalized on the craze a couple years ago and became a sensation in its own right, allowing fans to capture creatures and train them on their phones, depending on their real world location.Detective Pikachuis a bit of a different beast, transplanting the beloved character into a comedy mystery where he’s a skilled investigator who aspires to be a detective.
Uziel has been keeping busy lately, most recently working on Sony’sMen in Black Internationaland Paramount’sSonic the Hedgehogadaptation. Uziel also penned the script that was eventually transformed intoThe Cloverfield Paradoxat Bad Robot. He’s also working on Warner Bros.‘Supergirlscript.
