The slasher sub-genre has been on fire lately with iconic franchises likeScreamandHalloweenreturning in grand bloody fashion. One major series that has sadly been left out of the maddening fun has beenFriday the 13th. Jason Voorhees has been rotting at thebottom of Crystal Lakefor the last decade and a half thanks to a massive rights battle. However,Friday the 13th’s first new entry since 2009, the prequel TV seriesCrystal Lake, will soon be making horror fans scream again. Now, as we wait for Jason’s deadly comeback, his mother is ready with a frightening new action figure.

A part ofNECA’s popular seven-inch-scale “Ultimate” horror collection,Pamela Voorheesis armed to the teeth as she prepares to get vengeance for her late son. The character features multiple interchangeable hands and heads, an ax, a machete, a bow with an assortment of arrows, a hunting knife, and a broken oar. The figure is even complete with Pamela’s signature light blue sweater and shares an uncanny resemblance to actressBetsy Palmer. While NECA has released different versions of Pamela in the past, the toy company has spent the last decade creating an army ofJason figuresthat span all 12 of his killer adventures.

“I’m Mrs. Voorhees!”

While Jason Voorhees is the face of theFriday the 13thfranchise, it was the character’s mother that kicked it off in 1980. In the vein of recent hits at the time, likeHalloween, the genre’soriginal trip to Camp Crystal Lake was a whodunit slasher that put us in the POV of the killer. That killer would be revealed to be Mrs. Voorhees in the film’s thrilling third act. She started killing the camp counselors, which included a youngKevin Bacon, for trying to reopen the camp. Crystal Lake was the site of her son Jason’s death years prior. He drowned after a couple of neglectful camp counselors weren’t doing their jobs. Jason might have had to wait forFriday the 13th Part IIin 1981 to be the star, but Palmer gave one of the best performances the genre has ever seen. Invoking crazed serial killers found in classics likePsycho, she gave the first film a scary weight and screen presence that the later sequels just don’t have. This is even with her only having around ten minutes of screen time.Pamela will soon return as a central character forCrystal Lake, where she’ll be played by another horror icon,Linda Cardellini (Scooby-Doo).
