The maniacal fisherman may be out for blood inJennifer Kaytin Robinson’sI Know What You Did Last Summer, butFreddie Prinze Jr.is out here to slay. Included in the lineup of first-look images for this summer at the cinema, USA Today snatched a new look at the actor’s return to the slasher franchise, which sees him reprise a role from nearly three decades ago. And — spoiler alert — he’s just as much of a babe as ever, quite like his co-star,Jennifer Love Hewitt, who will also go face-to-face with the brutal killer once again in Robinson’s upcoming flick.
The image in question features Prinze Jr.’s Ray Bronson, standing alongside newcomersChase Sui Wonders(Bodies Bodies Bodies),Madelyn Cline(Outer Banks), andSarah Pidgeon(The Wilds), each of whom find themselves in deep, dark, and (to them) uncharted waters in the legacy sequel. The quartet can be seen standing dockside and looking out over the open water while Wonders’ character makes a phone call. It isn’t clear at what point the image picks up in the film, but it’s obvious that thegroup of teenage girlsis already concerned for their lives, while it’s just more of the same for Ray, who managed to survive the murderous mayhem that unfolded all those years ago.
As was teased when themovie celebrated its debut trailer revealjust last week,I Know What You Did Last Summerwill follow a similar premise tothe films that came beforeit. In it, audiences will strap in for the ride of their lives after a group of teenagers commits murder by a hit-and-run, unknowingly leaving their victim alive, only to find themselves the targets of a sadistic killer who brandishes a fisherman’s hook for a hand. With no one to turn to, the teens are seemingly out of luck until two adults who previously faced similar problems (Prinze Jr., Hewitt) step out of the shadows and use their wisdom to get as many of the youngsters to the other side as possible.
Who Will, and Who Won’t Be In ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’?
The arrival of the trailer put one long-surviving fan theory and hope to rest, when it was revealed thatSarah Michelle Gellar’s Helen Shiverswas really, truly, totally dead. The only other character whomightswoop in from the franchise’s earlier installments isBrandy Norwood’s Karla Wilson, but no one has given us any solid confirmation one way or the other. As far as other newbies appearing alongside Wonders, Cline, and Pidgeon,Tyriq Withers,Nicholas Alexander Chavez,Lola Tung,Gabbriette Bechtel,Austin Nichols,Billy Campbell, andJonah Hauer-Kingalso add their names to the call sheet.
