First of all, you need to get all of this straight.B.D. Wongis playing Doctor Hugo Strange onGotham(a DC property), butBenedict Wongis playing Wong in the movieDoctor Strange(a Marvel property), whileBenedict Cumberbatchis playingDoctor Strangehimself in that movie. All straight?
Now for the rest: back in October, wereportedthat B.D. Wong (who recently had an excellent turn as White Rose on USA’s breakoutMr. Robot) had been cast in the role of Hugo Strange inGotham’s second season. Finally, we’re getting our first look at Wong in character, viaTV Insider.

For those unfamiliar, Hugo Strange runs Arkham Asylum, and enjoys experimenting on the inmates. In our story from last fall, the character is described as,
“He’s hired to help the city’s criminally insane, but Strange has a nefarious streak as well: The professor is also conducting experiments on inmates and testing extraordinary abilities in order to create superhuman folks for Indian Hill. The underground Wayne Enterprises black-ops program was introduced in this week’s episode of Gotham as the secretive place where a badly burned Firefly (Michelle Veintimilla) was taken after being captured by the GCPD.”

Wong told TV Insider that,“What [he] is doing in there is indeed very, very bad. Imagine the worst thing someone might do. Then multiply that by 10.” Don’t forget that the Penguin, Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor) just became a new resident of Arkham, which means he is about to experience first hand the bad things that Strange can do. As Wong teases, “He is never the same from the moment he walks through the door.”
Gotham’s Season 2 tagline “rise of the villains” is being proved true in a literal way, as we also recently reported thatJada Pinkett Smith’s Fish Mooneywill be returningto the series for an upcoming arc of episodes. We also learned thatPaul Reubenswas recently cast as the Penguin’s father, with thisfirst imagegiving us a look at Reubens in the role (he played the Penguin back in 1992’sBatman Returns. I’m kinda missing the monocle).
So what do you think of the image, and do you have high hopes for Strange andGotham? Let us know in the comments.
