Earlier on in the first (and now only) season ofSuits LA, the spin-off series brought on originalSuitsstar,Gabriel Macht, as Harvey Specter for a three-episode arc which also featuredDavid Costabileas Daniel Hardman. This week, the spin-off continues that trend as it gears up forthe return of Rick Hoffmanas corporate finance attorney Louis Litt. Besides Macht’s Harvey andPatrick J. Adams' Mike Ross, Hoffman’s Louis was arguably one of the most memorable characters from the 2011 legal dramedy. Ahead of his arrival in the spin-off series, Hoffman, in an interview with TV Insider, revealed how the project was pitched to him.
Suits LAwas created byAaron Korsh, the same mind behind the original series, which means the creator has long-standing relationships withseveral of the OG stars. Korsh had earlier on asserted thathe knew what fans wantedwith regard to returning stars, and now Hoffman reveals how the idea was broached to him. Apparently, wprking together again has been a subject on the minds of both men for some time. “Well,he and I have been wanting to do something since we endedSuitsfive and a half years ago,” Hoffman began. “And so of course we were in touch throughout the pandemic and during the strike. Then it’s funny, becauseI hadn’t heard from him for three weeks and I was the last to know about the resurgence ofSuitsbecause I live up here in Canada in the boondocks.”
Suitsended in 2019, before the show enjoyed a resurgence in 2023 via streaming. This triggered the emergence and desire for the spin-off, which is led byStephen Amellas Ted Black. Apparently, Hoffman knew nothing about it all, adding:
“I didn’t know anything about anything. And then because I hadn’t heard from that, I was like, “Something is fishy.” And then the next thing I see in the trades wasSuits L.A.being catapulted into a series order for NBC.But just because you hear things from people, you don’tnecessarilybelieve all of it. You hear somebody say, “The show is blowing up,” and I’m like, “All right.” But then when you start seeing things like that, where they want to make a spin-off, I was like, “Oh my God, this is for real.”
‘Suits LA’ Is a Unique Series
Suits LAhas since premiered, with Amell being joined byJosh McDermittasStuart Lane,Lex Scott Davisas Erica Rollins, andBryan GreenbergasRick Dodsen, making up the spin-off’s main cast. The series boasts somestrong supporting castmembers and aunique storytelling approach. Set in the sunny city of Los Angeles, the show does not shy away from making use of the talent pool within the city, bringing ona plethora of real-life celebrities as guest stars. Unfortunately, NBC has confirmed thatSuits LAhas been cancelled.
