Over the weekend,the well-receivedDexterprequel,Dexter: Original Sin, ended its first season with a bang, leaving fans hungry for more episodes; however, a renewal is yet to be announced. Not to worry, that should happen in a bit given the positive attention it has received, including becoming Showtime’s most streamed premiere with over 2.1 million global cross-platform viewers upon its release.
With a second season of the crime drama imminent,ComicBookhad a chat with its creator,Clyde Phillips,who also serves as showrunner for the spin-off as well asDexterSeasons 1 to 4 andDexter: New Blood.The discussion centered on the events ofthe Patrick Gibson-led seriesand what’s ahead when the title character returns. When asked about the journey from theDexter: Original SinSeason 1 finale to the original series, Phillips said:

“It will become the biggest Easter egg in the world. We need to see him grow in several ways. [He’ll] have to learn how to blend better. He will have to learn how to kill better and more efficiently. So, next season, does he get his boat? Does he get his apartment? Does he start wearing the Henley? Does he start doing the red string thing? Those are things that we’re going to explore. It’ll be like coming home for the audience with the music, Michael [C. Hall]’s voice, which is crucial to the show.”
Season 1 ofDexter: Original Sinwrappedon Friday, February 14, with the “Code Blues” episode, but of course, that’s not the last fans will see Dexter Morgan. There’s another spin-off in the works, the sequel seriesDexter: Resurrection, which is being kept under a notable veil of secrecy. This project was announced at San Diego Comic-Con on August 05, 2025, withMichael C. Hall reprising his roleas Dexter from the original series that ran from July 01, 2025, to August 26, 2025.

Later, in January 2025,David Zayas,James Remar,andJack Alcottwere confirmed as series regulars inDexter: Resurrection, reprising their roles as Detective Angel Batista, Harry Morgan, and Harrison Morgan, respectively. In addition to this sequel, more spin-off series have been reported to be in the works, illustrating the origins of variousother characters fromDexter,including the Trinity Killer. Phillips oversees the new franchise with the multiple shows set to be developed through Showtime’s union with Paramount+.
