Emma D’Arcyis flying from Westeros to the silver screen in a major way.TheHouse of the Dragonbreakout starhas officially joinedTom Cruisein the untitled new feature from Oscar-winning directorAlejandro G. Iñárritu,on which filming is already underway in the United Kingdom ahead of an August 04, 2025 release through Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment. D’Arcy spoke toDeadlinewhere they revealed they would be working alongside “masters of their craft”.
“I’m delighted to be working with such extraordinary and exacting artists as Alejandro and Tom. They are the masters of their craft, and witnessing them in combination has been a privilege.”

The project is Iñárritu’s first English-language featuresince 2015’sThe Revenant(the one whereLeonardo DiCapriofought a bear) and it reunites him with hisBirdmanco-writersAlexander DinelarisandNicolas Giacobone, alongsideSabina Bierman. Per the official synopsis, the story follows “the most powerful man in the world [who] embarks on a frantic mission to prove he is humanity’s saviour before the disaster he’s unleashed destroys everything.”
Cruise has described the experience of working with Iñárrituand the cast as “the time of my life,” is the lead in a hugely impressive cast that includes the likes ofSandra Hüller,John Goodman,Jesse Plemons,Sophie Wilde,Riz Ahmed, andMichael Stuhlbarg.

Who Is Emma D’Arcy?
D’Arcy is best known to audiences for their Golden Globe–nominated performance asRhaenyra Targaryen inHouse of the Dragon.Their most recent film role was inEva Husson’sMothering Sunday(2021), oppositeOlivia Colman,Colin Firth, andṢọpẹ́ Dìrísù. They also produced and starred inThe Talent, a short film that earned a British Independent Film Award nomination last year.
Meanwhile,House of the DragonSeason 2 wrapped with Rhaenyra being proclaimed queenand preparing for all-out civil war in Westeros — a cliffhanger that fans will have to wait until Season 3 to see resolved. Fortunately, work on Season 3 is also underway, with HBO confirming that production of the series initially got underway at the end of March. When it will return to our screens is another matter entirely, but let’s hope it won’t be too long. Until then, D’Arcy will get to work on Cruise’s next big picture.
