One of the key creatives on ABC’sThe Rookiejust spilled the beans on one of his favorite dynamics in the show.The Rookiewill air its Season 7 finale this Tuesday, May 13, and after being on the air since the start of this year, fans have to say goodbye toNathan Fillion’s John Nolan. Fortunately, it won’t be for too long –The Rookiehas already been renewed for Season 8, and although lacking an official release date, it will likely return to ABC next year, if not sooner.The RookieshowrunnerAlexi Hawleyrecently sat down for an interview with ScreenRant and revealed that the dynamic between Angela (Alyssa Diaz) and Nyla’s (Mekia Cox) mothers has been his favorite:
“I would watch that show every week. I love that dynamic. Those two actresses are brilliant and really understood the assignment. Those scenes are a joy.”
The Rookieshowrunner Alexi Hawley got his start as a writer, penning the script forExorcist: The Beginning, the horror film starringStellan SkarsgårdandIzabella Scorupco. It wasn’t until five years later that he got his start in TV by writing an episode ofThe Unusuals. Once he turned to TV, he never looked back, and things blossomed from there on his way to writing episodes ofBody of Proof,State of Affairs, andThe Following, the crime thriller series led byKevin Bacon. In addition toThe Rookie, Hawley is also the creator ofThe Recruit, the Netflix original espionage series led byNoah Centineothat wascanceled after two seasons. Hawley is also famous for writing an episode ofTraining Day, the 2017 series based on the popularDenzel Washingtonmovie that ran for only one season. He also worked onThe Rookiespin-off,Feds, which ran for one season.
’The Rookie’s Nathan Fillion Has Two DC Projects Lined Up
It had already been confirmed that Fillion would star as Guy Gardner’s Green Lantern inSuperman, but a recent development confirmed his role in another DCU project. The firstofficial trailer forPeacemakerSeason2 was released a few days ago, and it confirmed that he will appear in the series as well.Isabela Merced’s Hawkgirl will also star inPeacemakerSeason 2. Fillion is aJames Gunnveteran who has worked with the writer/director on several of hisGuardians of the Galaxymovies in the MCU and previously onThe Suicide Squad.
