With the successful debut of Marvel’sJessica Joneson Netflix recently, fans of the TV versions ofThe Defendershave been wondering just when they’ll hear more about the last piece of the puzzle:Iron Fist.Daredevilis already set to return for a second season next year, withLuke Cageexpected to follow relatively soon after, but news has been quiet when it comes to Danny Rand. It seems like that’s about to change soon since we now have word thatIron Fisthas found its showrunner.
We recently brought you some quotes from Marvel Television chiefJeph Loebaboutthe state ofIron Fistand the decision to letJessica Jonesenjoy the spotlight before making any announcements regarding their most mysterious series to date. Though today’s news isn’t as sexy as a casting announcement or release date, it’s certainly a step in the right direction towards learning Fist.

AsComicbook.comandHeroic Hollywoodreport, veteran writer/producerScott Buckwill beIron Fist’sshowrunner. Marvel confirmed as much in a press release appearing soon after the story broke. Buck worked as executive producer on the darkly tinted serial-killer seriesDexterand as co-executive producer on the acclaimed dramaSix Feet Under. In addition to overseeing those darker dramatic works from the realm of premium cable networks, Buck also showed his funny side as a supervising and consulting producer on the early 2000s comedy seriesNikkiandThe Oblongs.
“Scott came in with a take on Iron Fist that quite simply knocked us off our feet,” said Executive Producer/Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb. “We always look for the most creative minds in the field to help us bring our heroes to life, and with Scott we’ve found someone that can deliver yet another great series in the ongoing story of The Defenders.”

“I’ve always been drawn to writing complex, intriguing characters, and that’s what most excites me about the opportunity to bring Danny Rand and “Iron Fist” to life with Marvel on Netflix,” said Buck.
Buck certainly has an interesting resume, but unfortunately we don’t have much more than to go on as far asIron Fistis concerned. We know thatDaredevilandLuke Cagewill grace your Netflix queue beforeIron Fistmakes his first live-action appearance, but it remains to be seen whether or not a new season ofJessica Joneswill be added to the schedule in the interim. Either way,Iron Fisthas to make his appearance beforeThe Defenderscan come together on the small screen, andpossibly the big screen, too.

Here’s how Marvel describes theirIron Fistseries:
“Returning to New York City after being missing for years, Daniel Rand fights against the criminal element corrupting New York City with his incredible kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist.”
