Take a lesson fromStar Wars: The Force Awakens— If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.Episode VII’s director,J.J. Abrams, and starDaisy Ridleywill likely be collaborating once again in the upcoming filmKolma, currently being developed by Paramount. This time, Abrams won’t be directing, but rather producing through his Bad Robot banner. Ridley, however, is in talks to star according toTHR, withDiary of a Teenage Girl’sMarielle Hellerin talks to direct.

As you can see, things are still in very preliminary stages, but they are certainly shaping up in interesting ways.Kolmais based on a Israeli TV movie calledAll I’ve Got(“Kol Ma She’Yesh Li”), which tells the story of a young women involved in a car accident that kills her boyfriend. At the end of her life, she’s given the opportunity to go back and relive that one day before tragedy strikes and be with her lost love again (who has been waiting for her on the other side), but in doing so, would lose the memories of her later life with her husband and children. So essentially,Titanicwhere Rose can decide to go back and be with Jack who survives, forgetting about her “first life” in the process. I would watch that movie, and I will probably watch this one!

Abrams has been producing content in just about every kind of film and TV genre lately, so while in some ways this feels like a much quieter and more emotionally intense movie than some of the massive-scale blockbusters he’s been involved with, it’s thematically similar to his time-travel-themed projects like11.22.63(his Hulu series starringJames Franco) and others.

As for Ridley, it’s not surprising — given her breakout performance inThe Force Awakens— that she’s being sought out for more high-profile projects, and I’m sure she’s going to very quickly become a familiar face to film goers (outside ofStar Wars, that is). And, in potentially joining Heller (who had her own breakout directorial moment withDiary of a Teenage Girl), the project sounds like it might be something that ends up being really great. High hopes, anyway!
