Editor’s Note: The following article contains spoilers for Law & Order: Organized Crime Season 5, Episode 3 “Paranza dei Bambini”

This hurts to see so early on in the season.Law & Order: Organized Crimejust lost a regular cast member at the end of the latest episode, “Paranza dei Bambini.“NBC confirmsthatAinsley Seiger, who has spent the last five seasons playing Detective Jet Slootmaekers, exited the series at the end of episode three. The computer whiz detective took a leave of absence after the events of Season 5, Episode 2 “Dante’s Inferno” where she’s roughed up by a suspect on an undercover operation with Detective Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni). In Episode 3, it’s revealed that she was offered a job by the FBI but turned it down. When she’s checked in on by Sgt. Ayanna Bell (Danielle Moné Truitt), she’s encouraged to take another look at the FBI’s offer. This eventually leads to Jet’s departure.

While the character is not the first regular to exit, it’s one that definitely stings for fans. Jet was the youngest member of the Organized Crime Control Bureau, with the actress born a year before the premiere of theLaw & Orderspin-off,Law & Order: Special Victims Unitwith her character supposed to be the same age. She functioned as the computer and tech whiz for the group, being able to hack, track down, and produce any bit of information that passed through a database. That ability led her to profile the serial killer truck stop murders from “Dante’s Inferno” while she was on a leave of absence. By the time that Ayanna checks in on her, she’s found nearly 150 victims that fit the profile.

‘Law & Order: Organized Crime’s Season 5 Focuses on Stabler’s Growing Family Drama

While Jet was basically Elliot Stabler’s work child, part of the focus this season forLaw & Order: Organized Crimecontinues to be Stabler’s family. His brother, Randall, played byDean Norris, his mother Bernie, played byEllen Burstyn, and his son Eli, played byNicky Torchia, are all major players in the season. From the logline of Season 5, we know that not only will Elliot’s time as an NYPD liaison in Rome come back to haunt him, but it will become personal, potentially targeting his family. We’ve already seen this at the end of Episode 3, and it will be interesting to see who else is potentially targeted as the season progresses (especially since the season finale is titled “He Was a Stabler.") This, coupled with mysterious phone calls Bernie believes to be her youngest child, Joe Jr. (Michael Trotter), Stabler’s family is going to be as much a part of the Season 5 conflict as the OCCB’s week-to-week cases.
