Has any major movie been retroactively thrown under the bus as carelessly asLogan? Marketed asHugh Jackman’s final time playing the iconic superhero, the movie delivered actual catharsis despite belonging to a genre where nothing is sacred.Loganwas a major box office success, and remainsone of the best-reviewed superhero movies of all time. But then, Jackman reversed his decision to retire from the role and returned as the character in last year’sDeadpool & Wolverine.Logan’s legacy— the movie stood apart from the kind of cash-grabs that the mainstream is often dominated by — was tarnished instantly. It’s ironic thatLoganhas now been overtaken at the global box office by the live-action remake ofLilo & Stitch, an animated movie that isn’t even as old as the firstX-Menfilm.

Having broken box office records in its debut,Lilo & Stitchtook just 10 days to pass the $600 million mark at the worldwide box office. The movie has now grossed $284 million domestically and another $334 million from overseas markets, fora cumulative global haul of $618 million. This puts it ahead of the $614 million thatLoganconcluded its theatrical run with in 2017. In the next few days,Lilo & Stitchwill overtake films such asLife of Pi,Iron Man 2, andThe Passion of the Christ. It’s poised to become Disney’s first billion-dollar hit sinceMoana 2last year.
