Mark Ruffalowill always be known for his role as Bruce Banner in theMCUand for his four Oscar nominations, but he’s been set to star in an upcoming crime series that just got a riveting first look. Vanity Fair has unveiled the first-look images fromTask, the upcoming show that will see Ruffalo star as an FBI agent assigned to lead a task force to end a slew of drug-house robberies. The show comes from scribeBrad Ingelsby, who also created the 2021 series that set the world on fire,Mare of Easttown. Ingelsby has also worked on other projects such asThe Way Back(Ben Affleck) andOur Friend(Jason Segel), butTaskwill mark his first project since the 2021 HBO hit.Taskis also set in Pennsylvania, likeMare of Easttown.

On the other side ofTaskis Tom Pelphrey, who portrays Robbie Prendergrast, the small-time garbage man who’s behind all the drug-house robberies.Taskis focused on much more than just two characters racing against each other in a tale of crime and justice, though. It also pulls back the curtain on both men’s respective pasts, which align more than either would like to believe. Vanity Fair’s first-look piece on the film also likened it toMichael Mann’s classic crime thriller,Heat, which puts an LA detective (Al Pacino) opposite a thief (Robert De Niro). That comparison alone is enough for us. Ingelsby describes it as a visceral“collision course”for both men. To make sure things were handled properly, Ingelsby even brought a real FBI agent on set, as well as the Chester County chief of police, and an advisor who was once part of a biker gang.

Is Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’?

Mark Ruffalo’s name was among those to not be given a chair during theAvengers: Doomsdaycasting announcement a few weeks ago. But given that he’s been a crucial part of everyAvengersfilm thus far and is alive and well in the MCU, it’s likely he’s one of the stars whose role is being kept under wraps. Ruffalo last appeared in the MCU inShe-Hulk: Attorney at Law, and after theThunderbolts*post-credits scene teased tension between the New Avengers and the old regime,Ruffalo’s Bruce Bannerwill almost certainly be siding with his former team.

Taskwill premiere on Max later this year. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates and coverage of the series.
