The Scream King continues his reign.Matthew Lillardhas officially secured his next takeover in a horror project, withDeadlinerevealing that theScreamactor is in talks to star inMike Flanagan’s series adaptation ofCarrie. The project would mark a reunion for the pair, who worked alongside one another on the upcomingThe Life of Chuck, which, likeCarrie, is also aStephen Kingadaptation. It’s incredibly exciting news for audiences who have loved watching Lillard take over the genre since his standout role as psychotic killer Stu Macher inWes Craven’s iconic, franchise-starting 1996 film,Scream— a role thathe’s set to reprise in 2026’sKevin Williamson-helmedScream 7.

As of right now, no specific details surrounding Lillard’sCarriecharacter have been confirmed. However, we know that the actor woulld join a lineup of talent that also includes new-to-the-sceneSummer H. Howell, who is on-board to play the titular character. Additionally,Siena Agudong(Resident Evil) joins as Sue Snell. Flanagan will serve as the project’s showrunner and also pens and executive produces the series. The iconic genre filmmaker, who has previously helmed similar titles likeOculusandDoctor Sleep, will also direct a handful of episodes.

When she discovers that she has telekinetic powers, the tables turn, and she takes her vengeance on not only her harassers but also her incredibly religious mother, who has kept her under lock and key. The Amazon series is far from the first time that King’s iconic and career-starting book has made its way onto the screen. In 1976,Sissy Spacektook on the role of Carrie in a legendary film helmed byBrian De Palma. More recently,Chloë Grace Moretzcoated herself in pig’s blood inKimberly Peirce’s 2013 remake.

What Else Is Matthew Lillard Up To?

As mentioned at the top, Lillard is set to reprise his role as Stu Macher in the Kevin Williamson-helmed feature,Scream 7. Seeing how the character seemingly died at the end of the first film, fans are eager to see what magic screenwriterGuy Busickis conjuring to work him back into the plot. Additionally, he’ll also reprise his villainous role in the upcomingFive Nights at Freddy’s 2, which is set for a theatrical release on December 5. On the small screen, Lillard will step into the MCU through a recently announced role in Season 2 ofDaredevil: Born Againas well as Season 2 of Amazon’sCross.
