Fans are eager to succumb to darkness withRobert Eggers’ upcoming gothic taleNosferatu. The movie led byBill Skarsgårdas the titular vampire has had its early previews and is garnering appreciation from critics all around.The first reactions to the movie called it an “artisan wet dream,” and now the Rotten Tomatoes score of the movie deems it the best of Eggers' filmography.
Nosferatu has garnered (a near-perfect) 94 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which is the highest among his other films. In comparison,Anya Taylor-JoystarringThe Witchhas a 91 percent rating, which is closely followed byThe NorthmanstarringAlexanderSkarsgårdat 90 percentand shares the spot withRobert PattinsonandWillem DafoestarringThe Lighthousewhich also has a 90 percent approval rating.
What To Expect From ‘Nosferatu?’
This has been a good year for horror flicks given the success ofImmaculate,Longlegs,The Substance,Beetlejuice Beetlejuiceand more. So at the end of the year, all eyes are on Eggers’Nosferatuas the movie is a remake of the classic German Expressionist vampire film of the same name. Given Eggers’ mastery of the horror genre with gory visuals and a thrilling plot, and Skarsgård’s penchant for playing iconic monsters, the movie has fans excited, and rightfully so. InCollider’s review,Jeff Ewingpraises Skarsgård’s performance, writing,
“Skarsgård is genuinely unrecognizable as the Count, a novel Nosferatu characterization complete with a mysterious, unique European accent and a domineering presence. It’s an incredible transformation, cementing the fact that Skarsgård should be recognized as one of our most versatile actors.”
The feature seems to be a haunting tale full of scare jumps, grotesque imagery, and some very strong performances. So, expect a “gothic tale of obsession,” combined with flawless performances, sets, and Eggers’ brilliant vision. It remains to be seen how Egger, considered a master of dark period pieces, interprets the tale for a new audience. The movie is further supported by a stellar cast including talents likeNicholas Houltas Thomas Hutter,Lily Rose-Deppas his wife Ellen Hutter, along withAaron Taylor-Johnsonas Friedrich Harding,Emma Corrinas Anna Harding,Ralph Inesonas Dr. Wilhelm Sievers,Simon McBurneyas Herr Knock and Dafoe as Albin Eberhart Von Franz.
