Outlanderfans will be pleased to know that we have more details as to the time-traveling narrative in the upcoming spin-off. Since it was announced in 2022 that a prequel would be made focusing on Claire (Catriona Balfe) and Jamie’s (Sam Heughan) parents, many who watch the Starz period drama were curious to find out if time-travel would be in the cards for Claire’s family inOutlander: Blood of My Blood. At today’sSan Diego Comic-Conpanel, the cast gave more insight as to what viewers can expect from thetime-travel component in the spin-off series. With Henry (Jeremy Irvine) and Julia (Hermione Corfield) Beachamp being transported from World War I-era England to 1700s Scotland, there might be more to Jamie and Claire’s fated love than we already know.
ShowrunnerMatthew B. Robertsshared in the panel that he was inspired to tell Henry and Julia’s story for one big reason.

“What if they were integral to having Jamie and Claire meet? And so that’s when it really took off, and we started to really explore. We talked to stars and Sony, and it really liked the idea. Here we are.”
Given thatOutlanderis built on Claire traveling through the stones and meeting the love of her life during the Jacobite revolution, it seems nothing but fitting for the prequel to also focus on Claire’s parents landing in another century. The cast even shared at the panel that Henry and Julia are bound to cross paths with Jamie’s parents, Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy) and Ellen MacKenzie (Harriet Slater). The series will premiere in two weeks, and we already know that the pilot will be centered on Jamie’s parents, while the second episode will focus on the other main pair.

Different fromOutlander,Blood of My Bloodis not based on a pre-existing book, but rather loosely based on the limited information we know about the characters fromDiana Gabaldon’s best-selling book series. In fact, before it was revealed that Claire’s parents would time travel in the prequel, it was understood that they had died in a car accident when Claire was still very young. Although Jamie has more of a recollection of who his parents were, giving a slight insight into what we can expect from Brian and Ellen in the spin-off, there is way more creative freedom for writers to dig deep into Henry and Julia’s story.
‘Outlander: Blood of My Blood’ Has Already Been Renewed for Season 2
In the sneak peek above, which also premiered at Comic-Con, we see Henry and Julia in the car as they make their way to the Scottish Highlands. From their conversation, it is clear as to whom Claire inherited her sense of humor from, with Julia already proving to be very much like her grown-up daughter, not only in appearance but in personality. Corfield, who plays Julia, spoke more about their similarities at the panel.
“I never wanted to do an impression of Catriona, because I want to respect her performance and its own thing, of course. So I’d say there are elements of it I sort of brought in to Julia, but I would say that they are very much their own characters. They both have an intelligence. They both are very resourceful and very romantic. I think they also both have a real soft side and a romance that you get to see their relationships.”

AsBlood of My Blooddraws near to its premiere with news that it has already been renewed for Season 2, fans will get to spend even more time as part of theOutlanderuniverse beyond the series that is coming to a close early next year.
The first two episodes ofOutlander: Blood of My Bloodpremiere on Starz on August 8.
