The Toronto International Film Festival is arguably the cornerstone of the fall festival season. While festivals like Telluride, Venice, and New York are important, Toronto is a key player in the awards season. The film that wins the People’s Choice Award almost always goes on to get at least a nomination for Best Picture and the year’s Best Picture winner almost always plays at TIFF. That’s not to mention the economic benefits that the festival brings to Toronto every early September....

Tom McCarthy’s family filmTimmy Failure: Mistakes Were Madeis absolutely delightful, and I can’t wait for folks to get a look at it when it arrives on Disney+ on February 7th. FilmmakerJ.J. Abramsand his Bad Robot production company officiallyclosed a deal to set up shopat WarnerMedia yesterday, but they didn’t simply go with the highest bidder when finding a new home. For years, Abrams and Bad Robot were housed at Paramount Pictures, but with that deal up for renegotiation this year, Abrams took his show on the road to visit other suitors. All the major players lined up, including Netflix and Sony Pictures, but it was Apple who made averybig play for Abrams in the range of $500 million....

I caught the film earlier this morning at a Press & Industry screening at TIFF, and it was a great way to start the festival....

Fresh on the heels of the wild news that HBO Max will be releasing the Snyder Cut ofJustice Leaguecomes a long-awaited update that there’s still hope forHenry Cavillto reprise his role as Superman in Warner Bros.' DC movies. Per Deadline, Cavill has been in talks with the studio to return as the beloved character, but with an important caveat – the report clearly states that the plan is not for aMan of Steelsequel or a solo Superman film....
