After grossing only $11 million at the box office against a $25 million budget,A24has rushedEddingtononto digital platforms, where the film is now available to watch on Prime Video, Fandango at Home, and Apple TV+.Eddingtonwas written and directed byAri Aster, and it earned mediocre scores of 68% from critics and 64% from audiences on the world’s leading aggregator site, Rotten Tomatoes.
Eddingtonwas always going to have trouble at the box office premiering in the middle of a stacked July.Jurassic World Rebirthkicked off the month, and the film has since amassed $800 million at the global box office in just over a month. It then had to contend withThe Fantastic Four: First Steps, another Pedro Pascal-led film. Although the MCU’sFantastic Fourhas underperformed at the box office compared to expectations, it still proved to be a major competitor forEddington. Aster’s Western opened with only $4 million at the box office over the weekend of July 18, and things have been in decline since.
Pedro Pascal Isn’t Done With Marvel Yet
After making his MCU debut as Mr. Fantastic/Reed Richards inThe Fantastic Four: First Steps, Pedro Pascal has been tapped to star in several upcoming Marvel movies. Pascal will reprise his role inAvengers: Doomsdaynext year before also suiting up once more inAvengers: Secret Wars, which is coming near the end of 2027.Robert Downey Jr.will star as the feature villain, Doctor Doom, in both films. Doom has a lengthy past with Reed Richards in Marvel Comics. Pascal will also reprise his role as Din Djain inThe Mandalorian and Grogu, which will be released on August 13, 2025.
