Ridley Scottand hisPrometheusstars have been chatting up the sequel for quite some time, and each new update makes the project curiouser and curiouser. The latest comes from the director himself, who let slip some plot details as the film adds aSpectrescreenwriter to the mix.

First things first. Apparently,Prometheus 2— which Scott has dubbed, for better or worse,Alien: Paradise Lost— will reveal who created the aliens. He toldIGN:

Prometheus 2will start getting shot in February and I’ve already begun now so I know what the script is. Then there will be another one after that and then maybe we’ll back into Alien 1, as to why? Who would make such a dreadful thing?

Be wary of spoilers fromPrometheus, but last we saw,Noomi Rapace’s Elizabeth Shaw was jetting off in search of the Engineers, while back on the LV-223 moon a Xenomorph was hatching. Who would make such dreadful things, indeed? Are they weapons? Are they warriors? Are they abominations? I guess we’ll find out.

Scott’s words also echoprevious statements, in which he explained that only after a potential third or fourthPrometheussequel would the franchise lead back intoAlien. The purpose of these prequels, for him, is to explain this universe and the whys and hows of these creatures.

I always thought of the Alien as a kind of piece of bacterial warfare. I always thought that that original ship, which I call the Croissant, was a battleship, holding these biomechanoid creatures that were all about destruction.

Ridley Scott

John Loganhas boarded the project to help Scott on scripting duties (/Filmpicked up that little morsel from a lengthy piece fromVariety). Logan has some major credits to his name, includingSkyfallandSpectre. He and Scott will have to whip that script into shape ahead of next year’s production start date forAlien: Paradise Lost, which willshoot in Australiaand is said to featurea new group of travelers.
