Akira (Rina Sawayama) is coming back to the world ofJohn Wick. The character will be seen inCaine, the upcoming spinoff centered around the character portrayed byDonnie Yen. Details regarding the premise of the project remain under wraps. While Lionsgate wants to keep plenty of surprises for when this story premieres on the big screen, it’s been confirmed that the movie will follow Caine now that he doesn’t work for the High Table. Akira was introduced during the events ofJohn Wick: Chapter 4. The new film will give her the chance to steal the spotlight once again.
John Wick: Chapter 4presented Akira as the daughter of Shimazu Koji (Hiroyuki Sanada). Growing up in the middle of the war between the criminal underworld and the High Table, Akira developed intense combat skills that allowed her to survive for so long. These abilities turn the character into the perfect character to leadCainealongside the protagonist portrayed by Donnie Yen. The threat these heroes will be facing hasn’t been revealed yet. Now that John Wick (Keanu Reeves) is dead, this media universe will need to find different ways in which to expand.

Cainewill be directed by Donnie Yen himself. The project is expected to start filming later this year. Audiences might also remember the artist from his time in the galaxy far, far away. Yen appeared as Chirrut Îmwe inRogue One: A Star Wars Story, the prequel that depicted how a group of Rebel spies stole the plans of the original Death Star. Almost a decade has passed since the launch of the spinoff directed byGareth Edwards. Donnie Yen is ready to expand his legacy in the entertainment industry thanks toCaineand to the world ofJohn Wick.

Caineisn’t the only follow-up Lionsgate planned for the franchise.From the World of John Wick: Ballerinawill premiere in theaters next month.Ana de Armasstars as Eve Macarro in the upcoming spinoff that will also mark the return of Keanu Reeves as John Wick. The movie will follow Macarro as she trains in the assassin traditions of the Ruska Roma, after building a career for herself as a ballerina. Time will tell if the stories ofBallerinaandCainewill be directly connected in any way, or if these projects are set to expand the world ofJohn Wickin different directions.
