To survive, he joins the Cleaners, a rogue group that fights these creatures using special weapons. Another standout of the season,The Summer Hikaru Diedfollows best friends Yoshiki and Hikaru, who live in a quiet, rural town. Inseparable since childhood, the two are always together, so Yoshiki is quick to notice that something is off when “Hikaru” returns after being lost in the woods for several days. He looks and sounds exactly the same, but Yoshiki knows deep down that this is not the friend he once knew.
When Yoshiki finally confronts him, “Hikaru” transforms into an otherworldly being and tearfully begs him not to make it to kill him. Devastated by the realization that his best friend is truly gone, Yoshiki finds himself unable to move on and, against all logic, begins growing closer to the creature that now wears Hikaru’s face. All the while, disturbing events begin to unfold in their village, plunging their peaceful town into a growing state of chaos.
