There’s no slowing downSamuel L. Jackson. He appears in about five films per year on average (2016 is a bit of a slow year for him—he’s only inCell,The Legend of Tarzan, andMiss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children), and he’s made himself a staple of franchise films. His biggest franchise is, of course, Marvel, and he’s expected to return for the upcomingAvengerssequels.
While doing press forMiss Peregrine, Steve Weintraub asked Jackson if Nick Fury would have a big part or a small part in theAvengersmovies. Jackson replied, “I hear I’m around in 3 and 4. I hear I’m back.” However, when pressed about when he would be going to Atlanta to start shooting his part, Jackson said he didn’t know when he would be filming.
The MCU really hasn’t seen much of Nick Fury sinceCaptain America: The Winter Soldier. He had a small role inAvengers: Age of Ultron, and he made a brief cameo on the season finale ofAgents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but sinceS.H.I.E.L.D.was disbanded, it seems like Marvel isn’t really sure what to do with the character. The TV series has painted them into a bit of a corner because he can’t be the director againandthe world thinks he’s dead. Also, his role is a little redundant: he’s a super-spy, but the team already has Black Widow. I’m very curious to see what the Russos have in store for Fury inAvengers: Infinity Warand its untitled sequel.
If you’re hoping to see a lot of Jackson as Xander Cage’s handler Agent Augustus Eugene Gibbons inxXx: Return of Xander Cage, you might want to put those expectations in check. Steve asked what Jackson could tease about the film, and Jackson responded:
SAMUEL L. JACKSON: You know, I don’t know anything about it because I showed up, I did two days with Vin. Maybe a day-and-a-half. I sort of intro the movie and I extro the movie. I don’t know what happens in the middle of it.
Samuel L. Jackson will happily collect a paycheck for providing the framing device for your movie.
