Zach Creggeris on top of the world right now as his latest horror film,Weapons, just spent another week atop the box office. However, despite its recent success, Cregger’s previous horror masterpiece just got a devastating streaming update. Before he ever teamed up withJosh BrolinforWeapons, Cregger wrote and directedBarbarian, the 2022 psychological horror film that’scurrently streaming on Netflix. Unfortunately, the streamer has confirmed thatthe last day to watchBarbarianwill be at the end of the month on August 31— act fast, Cregger fans.

Barbarianwas a major hit among critics and audiences, and the film also found tremendous success at the box office. After earning a “Certified Fresh” 92% from critics and a 70% from audiences on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes,the film left theaters after grossing $45 million worldwide. While this total may not pop off the screen, what makes it impressive is the fact that the film was produced on a modest budget of only $4.5 million. Cregger made his feature writing debut in 2009 onMiss March, the romantic comedy that he also starred in and directed. He followed that two years later withThe Civil War on Drugs, the historical war comedy that he once again led and directed with his long-time collaborator,Trevor Moore. Things were quiet for Cregger for the next 10 years until he returned with force forBarbarian, and he’s since established himself asone of the most formidable horror writers/directors working today.

‘Weapons’ Is One of the Biggest Box Office Hits of the Year

After Cregger’sBarbariancost only $4.5 million to produce,New Line Cinemagave the director a bigger budget forWeapons. The film cost $38 million, which puts its break-even point at around $80 million. It’s already soared past this —the film has grossed $148 millionafter two full weekends in theaters. Considering it has earned scores of 93% from critics and 86% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, this box office success is likely to continue in the coming weeks asWeaponscontinues to excel throughstrong word-of-mouth marketing.
