Netflix has released the first trailer for the upcoming romantic comedySet It Up. The film hails from prolific TV directorClaire Scanlon(Brooklyn Nine-Nine,The Office) and starsZoey DeutchandGlen Powellas a pair of overworked assistants with terrible bosses who concoct a plan to make their bosses fall in love, that way they’ll finally be able to have their own lives.Lucy LiuandTaye Diggsplay the bosses, and as you may probably guess, the process brings Deutch and Powell’s characters closer than ever before.
I’ll admit, I love a good romantic comedy, and this is a genre that Hollywood doesn’t seem too keen on making anymore. Which is a shame, because when done well, a good romcom can stand the test of time and serve as an endlessly rewatchable piece of entertainment (see:Sleepless in Seattle). So it’s nice to see that Netflix is down with making romcoms, and whileSet It Uplooks fairly predictable, Deutch and Powell (who previously co-starred inRichardLinklater’s criminally underseenEverybody Wants Some!!)are two incredibly charismatic performers so they may very well be the key to what makesSet It Upwork. And even if it’s not a new classic, at least it’s something different.

Here’s the official synopsis forSet It Up:
In the hilarious and subversive romantic comedySET IT UP, Harper (Zoey Deutch) and Charlie (Glen Powell) are two overworked, underpaid executive assistants beaten down by Manhattan’s rat race. Barely aware of their own deferred dreams, these twentysomethings live to serve a pair of tough bosses (Lucy Liu and Taye Diggs) who whip them into a daily frenzy. Teaming up out of sheer desperation, Harper and Charlie hatch a plan to become secret matchmakers, getting their bosses off their backs by luring them into a fake romance. But what starts out as a brilliant maneuver quickly spirals out of their control as they realize that being the puppet masters isn’t as simple as it seems.
