After winningAnime of the Year in this year’s anime awards, the popular series may be losing its touch, especially when Season 3 has yet to be greenlit. It won’t be long untilSolo Leveling, starringAleks Le, will be dethroned on Crunchyroll’s Top 10 charts.

While the franchise’s future seems bright, with the announcement ofa live-action adaptation in the works, Q2 2025 has shown thatSolo Levelingis on the verge of being dethroned. One example isTakopi’s Original Sin, which managed to breakan IMDb recordthatSolo Levelingcouldn’t reach. Meanwhile,Frieren: Beyond Journey’s Endwas able tofind streaming success outside Crunchyroll.
What’s ‘Solo Leveling’ About?
Solo Levelingwas originally an online web novel onWebtoon, which was written byChugongand first published in 2016. It follows Sung Jinwoo (Le), an E-rank hunter who’s described as “The Weakest of All of Mankind.” Butdespite being the weakest, he still fightsas the money he earns from dungeons goes towards his sister’s education and his hospitalized mother. Following anear-death experienceat a double dungeon, he was selected by the System to become a “Player,” giving him the ability to level up his skills, eventually becoming South Korea’s 10 S-Rank Hunter. The anime covers the first 13story arcsfrom the original manhwa, and according to producers, Season 3 will focuson the emotional tollthat comes with him gaining this much power.
Season 1 first came out in January 2024, andit became a massive success, generating a perfect 100% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes.Meanwhile, audiences gave it a 75% on the site, and an 8.24 score on MyAnimeList. Season 2 was released a year later in 2025, which led the series to win Anime of the Year, along with eight out of the 13 nominations at this year’s event.
