Despite its title —Evil Dead Burn— the latest installment from theSam Raimi-created horror franchiseis set to rise from theashes(pun intended) next year and carry on as one of the genre’s most beloved film series. Since the project signed onSébastien Vaniček, yet another celebrated filmmaker, to pick up the torch previously carried byLee Cronin,Fede Álvarez, and, of course, Raimi, audiences have been eager to uncover more information surrounding the film, which is slated to fully traumatize viewers next year.
Thanks to a chat with one of the upcoming film’s stars,Luciane Buchanan, while on the red carpet for her latest project, Apple TV+’sChief of War, Collider’s editor-in-chief,Steve Weintraub, received an incredible update surrounding the title’s production schedule. When asked if filming was already underway, Buchanan said, “Technically, yes,” adding, “Let’s just saythey were very kind to let me come here, and I might be seeing them very soon.” Today, Vaniček confirmed via Instagram that filming has begun.

When it comes to what to expect from what will serve as the sixth film in the series, Buchanan understandably kept her cards close to her chest. Still, she was quick to sing the praises of the project’s script and its leadership under the first-time franchise helmer, sharing:
“I’ve watched all the other Evil Dead’s, I made my way through them, and when I read the script, it’sunlike any of the Evil Dead’s. I guessthe director has his own spin on it,and I was very excited. I really enjoyed the script. The actors are incredible, but I’ll leave it there.”

Sébastien Vaniček’s Involvement Promises a Truly Brutal Installment
After nearly two decades since Raimi rounded out his trilogy with 1992’sArmy of Darkness, Álvarez brought the terror to new heights through 2013’sEvil Dead, which was followed yet another decade later by Cronin’sEvil Dead Rise. WhileBruce Campbelldidn’t reprise his iconic role as Ash for either of these movies (aside from a very brief post-credits sequence), the films introduced brand-new characters, fresh storylines, and gave us reasons to fear vines andcheese graters. With their unique vision, both Cronin and Álvarez were able to give audiences something they had never seen from anEvil Deadfilm before, and, thanks to Buchanan’s comments, it sounds like we can expect more of that entrepreneurial spirit from Vaniček.
As anyone who’s seen Vaniček’s 2023 horror flick,Infested, will know, the French filmmaker isn’t one to shy away from scenes that will not just keep you on the edge of your seat, but force you to watch between your fingers. With a 95% critics’ approval rating onRotten Tomatoes, and plenty ofacclaim from genre giants like Stephen King, the movie was one of the most talked-about skin-crawling flicks of the year, giving plenty of promise for the director’s chapter in theEvil Deadfranchise.

Stay tuned to Collider for more updates surroundingEvil Dead Burn, which is set to rise into cinemas on July 26, 2025. In the meantime,Evil Dead Riseis available to stream on HBO Max.
