One ofDavid Tennant’s favorite movies of all time has returned to streaming charts years after it was originally released in theaters. Best known for his work in theDoctor Whofranchise, Tennant has starred in projects such asFright Night,Jessica Jones,Good Omens, and more. However, it can be easy to forget that many actors are also avid consumers of film and television. Tennant stated in an interview with Letterboxd earlier this year that the originalStar Wars, which is now titledA New Hope, is his third favorite movie ever, behind12 Angry Men(1957) andIt’s a Wonderful Life(1946). After recently celebrating its 48th anniversary,A New Hopeis currently trending on Disney+ as one of the most popular projectson the platform, sitting at #9 at the time of writing.

However, David Tennant isn’t the reason thatA New Hopeis trending on Disney+. The film has seen increased viewership thanks to the recent release ofAndorSeason 2, which acts as a prequel toRogue One: A Star Wars Story.Rogue Onepremiered in 2016 as a prequel toA New Hope, following the Rebellion’s journey to steal the Death Star plans. AfterAndorconcluded two weeks ago, fans rushed to watchRogue Onewith all the added context, and next up on the Star Wars movie slate after that isA New Hope. All three projects are directly tied to each other, which is the most likely reason whyA New Hopehas found new life on streaming recently. The film earned $775 million at the box office in 1977, which amounts to over $4 billion in 2025 when factoring in inflation.
