Fans ofisekai storiesalways have something new to check out in the world of anime, and this summer it won’t be any different. Next month, the new anime seriesThe Water Magicianis debuting onCrunchyroll, and the streaming platform announced today when you may expect to check out the very first episode of the series: it starts rolling out Season 1 on July 3, just a couple of weeks from now. Along with the release date, a new trailer was unveiled to announce some of the voice actors who are helping bring the story to life. You can check it out in this article.

The new and atmospheric trailer ofThe Water Magicianinitially makes it all about Ryo (Ayumu Murase), a young boy who gets transportedinto a magical new world— withStudio Ghiblivibes — after a tragic accident in his life. He discovers himself as a water magician, but so far we don’t know the implications of it and what sort of responsibilities and challenges that will entail. We do know that Ryo will have to face some challenges on his own, though, including taking on wild animals that will test his newfound abilities.

The trailer also reveals two characters that we will meet on this new journey: Abel (Kazuki Ura) and Sera (Kaede Hondo). We still don’t know much about them, but from their brief appearances in the trailer we can imagine that Abel will handle theaftermath of something bad— he washes up on a shore and looks disoriented — and Sera likes to read up on her craft. More characters are bound to pop up, but for now we can just enjoymeeting the main trio of the story.

Is ‘The Water Magician’ Based on a Manga?

The Water Magicianwas first published as a light novel written byTadashi Kudouand illustrated byHana Amano. However, its popularity prompted the adaptation of the story tomanga formatone year after the light novels started getting published. It was then fast-tracked into ananime adaptation— the new series comes to our screens just five years after its initial publication.

The animation ofThe Water Magicianis handled by Typhoon Graphics, the animation studio that brought to life titles likeOne Room,Sengoku Night Blood, andDahlia in Bloom.Hideyuki Satake(Delicious in Dungeon) directs the episodes of the newanime series, andJun Kumagai(Aquarion Logos) serves as the composition writer. Additional voice actors includeGenki Muro(Witch Watch),Naoya Miyase(Beyblade X),Kohei Amasaki(Re: Zero - Starting Life in Another World),Kaori Ishihara(Love Is Indivisible by Twins),Sara Matsumoto(Boruto: Naruto Next Generations),Satoshi Mikami(Solo Leveling),Miku Ito(The Apothecary Diaries),Takehito Koyasu(JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure), andHochu Otsuka(Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust).
