Folks, we are watching a superhero move make a bit of history.Avengers: Endgametook in a record-destroying $350 million domestically and another $859 million overseas for an absolutely astounding global debut of $1.2 billion. Our directors, Anthony and Joe Russo, and our writers, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, really brought this story home, and I am also incredibly thankful for our cast and filmmakers from across the MCU and all who’ve worked so hard to make these films the best they can be, including the amazing teams at Marvel Studios and Disney. And of course, without Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, none of this would have been possible.”
Endgamenow sits atop the opening weekend record books, knockingInfinity War($257 million) from the top spot and beating outStar Wars: The Force Awakens($248 million),Star Wars: The Last Jedi($220 million),Jurassic World($208 million), andAvengers($207 million). The film currently has the second highest Rotten Tomatoes in the MCU—behindBlack Panther—with 96% and garnered a stellar A+ Cinemascore.
The movie is a success, is what I’m saying.
And that rising tide raised all Marvel ships, apparently. In its eighth weekend, Captain Marvel came in second place with $8 million, signalling that even audiences not caught up wanted to be a part of Endgame. Warner Bros.' Conjuring Universe spookshow The Curse of La Llorona rounded out the top 3 with $7.5 million.
